Let’s Clean Up Semoran!

Let's Clean Up Semoran! On Saturday, February 26, Orlando residents and members of the Semoran Business Partnership came together to clean up the Semoran corridor. Almost 250 volunteers joined Mayor Buddy Dyer and District 2 Commissioner Tony Ortiz in an effort to further beautify the Semoran Boulevard neighborhood.

During the “Let’s Clean Up Semoran!” event, volunteers picked up trash between Curry Ford Road and Lake Underhill Road while also helping to raise funds for future planned improvements made along Semoran Boulevard.

The event helped the neighborhood implement some of their goals outlined in the recently completed vision plan for the area. The Semoran Boulevard Vision Plan, developed under Commissioner Ortiz’s leadership, is a long-term guide for future development and improvements in the area.

2011 City Beautiful Waterway Clean-up a Success

On Saturday, March, 19, 160 community volunteers including those from Evans High School Honor Society, After School All Stars, Sea World, Bank of America, Disney World, Jackson Middle School, Cypress Creek High School, Darden Restaurants, UCF Burnett Honors College and Theta Tau, and One Brick, dedicated their morning to the City Beautiful Waterway Clean-Up. Volunteers helped by removing 1,900 pounds of trash and debris from the shores of La Costa Wetlands, Lake G and Lake Underhill in just two hours. The cleanup, sponsored locally by the City of Orlando Stormwater section and Keep Orlando Beautiful, involved the collection of 92 bags of trash, six bicycles, a shopping cart, car parts and building materials. Volunteers were provided restaurant coupons generously donated by Bikes Beans and Bordeaux, Ethos Vegan Kitchen and Infusion Tea.

Litter and debris found during events like this one are attributed to land based sources such as runoff from our streets through the storm drain system and illegal dumping. Remember, put trash in its place. And do not put anything into the streets or down storm drains that you would not want to drink or swim in.
