MAYOR BUDDY
DYER ANNOUNCES CONTINUUM TO CITY’S $110 MILLION PUBLIC SAFETY INITIATIVE
City’s Fire and Economic Development Departments Unveil Unique
Development Opportunity
|
WHAT: |
On Monday, April
2, Mayor Buddy Dyer will join Fire Chief Jim
Reynolds and Economic Development Director Frank
Billingsley to make announcements re-emphasizing
the City’s strong commitment to public safety,
while also providing new opportunities for
mixed-use developments.
Mayor Dyer
will unveil the plan for the Orlando Fire
Department’s (OFD) new state-of-the-art
headquarter station to be placed on the former
Lynx Bus Station site located on Garland between
West Pine Street and West Central Boulevard.
This station will centralize OFD personnel from
three sites into one, housing the current OFD
Station 1 units, Citywide specialty units
including the Arson/Bomb Truck, Dive Van and
Hazardous Materials Unit, as well as OFD
Administration. This one-of-a-kind headquarter
station in the downtown urban core will allow
OFD to continue providing the highest quality of
urban services to Orlando’s residents
Additionally, Economic Development will announce
a unique opportunity that will serve as a model
for public-private partnerships in development.
The city plans to lease the space above the Fire
Station to facilitate a private mixed-use
project, with the goal of providing workforce
housing as one component.
