Ride Your Bicycle to Work, Receive FREE Starbucks Coffee
Mayor Dyer Celebrates Bike to Work Day – May 16

WHAT: Mayor Dyer and Orlando residents are heading to work motor-free. This week, the City of Orlando celebrates the almost 230 miles of bikeways and bike lanes by participating in National Bike Month with the Mayor’s proclamation of May 16 as "Bike to Work Day."

Mayor Buddy Dyer encourages all citizens and visitors to celebrate "Bike to Work Day" by riding a bike to work this Friday, and exploring a healthier and less expensive way to commute. As part of this event, Starbucks has agreed to partner with the City and offer free coffee at ALL Orlando area Starbucks locations to anyone who commutes by bicycle and brings a mug on Friday, May 16, 2008.

Designated a Bicycle Friendly Community since 2000, Orlando promotes bicycling as a form of transportation by incorporating complete streets policies to make roads safe and accessible to all users; giving away locks, lights, helmets and reconditioned bikes; starting the Pedal for Pride bike ride with the Parramore Kidz Zone and working directly with the Orlando Police Department to provide education, safety training and enforcement for bicycling.

WHERE: Mayor Dyer and Orlando citizens will leave from the Starbucks on 1915 Edgewater Drive in College Park with a final destination at City Hall.

WHEN:

Friday, May 16 starts at 8:30 a.m. at Starbucks with arrival at City Hall approximately 9 a.m
