State of Florida and City of Orlando
Host Florida Main Street Training Event
| WHAT: |
Experts from the state-wide Florida Main Street
program will be in Orlando this week to educate Orlando
residents, businesses and the community at large about the Main
Street program. The training includes sessions on proven
methodology used by the program to revitalize traditional
commercial districts, the Main Street “Four-Point Approach.” The
Four-Points – organization, design, economic restructuring and
promotion – will be addressed in detail with interactive
sessions presented by Florida Main Street consultants and
project managers to arm attendees with information on how to
create and implement a successful Main Street program.

| BKGD: |
The City of Orlando is the first urban district in
the Southeast to be selected for the Main Street program.
The Main Street Program utilizes training, technical assistance
and staff support to achieve successful urban commercial
districts in our neighborhoods. The districts in Orlando seek to
develop long-term strategies to increase the economic power and
resources of neighborhood commercial districts while pursuing
initiatives that build knowledge and capacity for Main Streets
programs and the businesses they serve. Every dollar
a community uses to support its local Main Street program
leverages an average of $40.35 in new investment, making the
Main Street program one of the most successful economic
development strategies in America.
There has been great success with the program in
other cities such as Boston, Massachusetts where they have
increased the number of new businesses, new jobs, volunteer
hours invested and improvement grants.
