Mayor Dyer Encourages Residents to File Taxes to Receive Economic
Stimulus Payments
| WHAT: |
More than 14,000 Orlando residents eligible for
an economic stimulus check have yet to file their 2007 tax
return. For most filers, payments will range between $300 to
$600 for individuals and $600 to $1200 for joint filers.
Taxpayers may receive $300 for each qualifying child. This means
that more than $4 million in unclaimed money is the result of
unfiled tax returns by local residents. Residents have one
final opportunity to amend this by filing a 2007 tax return for
free during a one day special event.
Eligibility for an economic stimulus payment is
reached if 2007 earnings exceeded $3,000 and a tax form (1040A)
is filed with the IRS by October 15, 2008. Even residents who do
not usually file a tax return are potentially eligible for the
economic stimulus payment. Anyone interested in obtaining
further information can dial 2-1-1 or contact the IRS at
1.866.234.2942 or www.irs.gov.
