Mayor Dyer and Chief Demings Unveil Latest Tool in Fight Against Crime

WHAT:

Through Mayor Buddy Dyer’s three-year, multi-million dollar Public Safety Initiative the Orlando Police Department has bolstered the number of officers on the streets, added new substations throughout the City and invested in tools, training and technology. The final component of the Public Safety Initiative is the completion of a new state-of-the-art, multi-use training facility to ensure our police officers have the most advanced training to continue keeping Orlando safe.

On Thursday, August 13, Mayor Dyer and Police Chief Val Demings will officially open the new Orlando Police Department Training Facility, which will provide Orlando police officers with advanced training opportunities, including night-simulated firearms training and scenarios using vehicles, running targets and traffic stops.

Since Mayor Dyer’s investment in public safety in 2006, there has been a 62% decline in the number of homicides year to date in Orlando.
