Mayor Buddy Dyer to Plant Seedlings for Civil Rights

WHAT:
Mayor Buddy Dyer will work-along with hundreds of community volunteers along the John Young Parkway corridor in Districts 5 and 6 during the “Plant Seedlings for Civil Rights” event taking place on the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday held Monday, January 16.

Sponsored by the City of Orlando and Mayor Dyer’s Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Commission, the “Plant Seedlings for Civil Rights” event was created as a day of service to honor Dr. King’s legacy. During the event, several work stations will be set up throughout the area in an effort to clean up and spruce up the John Young Parkway corridor between Church Street and Orange Center Boulevard. Work will consist mostly of debris removal along the roadside and medians.

Volunteers interested in participating in this day of service should contact Keep Orlando Beautiful at 407.246.2752 or Green Up Orlando at 407.246.3504 for more information.

As part of his Strengthen Orlando plan, Mayor Dyer has transitioned his series of work-alongs to focus primarily on community service. Through leading by example, Mayor Dyer encourages citizens to get involved and continually give back to their community.
