Waterbabies - Infant and Preschool Aquatics Program
Waterbabies helps young children ages six months to five years old become comfortable in and around the water so they can learn to swim. The program gives parents information and techniques to help orient their children to the water and to supervise water activities in a safe manner.
Infant Level: 6–18 months
Parent/Adult
accompaniment in the
water is required.
Toddler Level: 18-36 months
Parent/Adult accompaniment in the
water is required.
Preschool Level: 3-5 years
These children will be taught age
appropriate basic swimming and safety skills.
Youth: 6-17 years
Level I: Introduction to Water Skills
Introduces students to the water to feel comfortable and enjoy the water safely.
Level II: Fundamental Aquatics Skills
The objective of Level II is to
give students success with fundamental skills. This
Level marks the beginning of true locomotion skills and adds to the self-help
and basic rescue skills started in Level I. Must
have Level I certificate or be able to demonstrate all the completion
requirements in Level I.
Level III: Stroke Development
Level III builds on the skills in
Level II by providing guided practice.
Front and back crawl strokes are developed and
the fundamentals of treading water is introduced.
Must have a Level II certificate or be able to
demonstrate all the completion requirements in Level II.
Level IV: Stroke Improvement
Level IV develops confidence in the strokes learned thus far and improves on other aquatic skills such as breastroke, elementary backstroke, butterfly and open turns. Must have a Level III certificate or be able to demonstrate all completion requirements in Level III.
Level V: Stroke Refinement
Level V is coordination and
refinement of key strokes.
Introduction of flip turns, sidestroke and rescue
breathing. Must have a Level IV certificate or be able to demonstrate
all of the requirements in Level IV.
Level VI: Swimming and Skill Proficiency
Refines the strokes so students
swim them with ease, efficiency, power and smoothness
over greater distances.
Level VI is designed with four component options
which focus on preparing students to participate in more
advanced courses such as Water Safety Instructor and
Lifeguard Training.
The four components are:
Personal Water Safety, Lifeguard Readiness,
Fundamentals of Diving and Fitness Swimming.
Must have a Level V certificate or be able to
demonstrate all of the requirements in Level V.
This program is for kids aged 11-15 to get a jump start into a lifeguarding job and provides a foundation of lifeguarding and life skills. For those with swimming skills at level 5 or above, this program is an ideal transition between the Learn to Swim program and the Lifeguard Training course.
Synchronized Swimming +A creative sport for swimmers with
a minimum of Level III skills. Teams
will participate in a synchronized swim show during the
Fun Finale swim meet. Swimmers
will perform intricate skills and synchronization of routines set to music.
Recreational Swim Team
This is an instructional non-competitive program in
which stroke refinement, teamwork, self-reliance, and
fun are taught to participants. This program is designed
for children ages 6-16 years old. In order to register, participants must be
able to swim 25 yards without stopping. Morning
and evening practices are available.
Adult Fitness is a self-paced lap-swimming program for
those 18 years old and up. This program is offered
year-round. Daily, monthly,
semi-annual and annual memberships are available.
Participate in water exercise programs for adults of all
ages and fitness levels. Have fun and make new friends
during this exciting exercise program. This program is
offered year-round.
The Orlando Rowing Club is a group of men and women 2 years of age or older that get together each week in the early morning or late afternoon under the supervision of an experienced coach to learn to row or improve their rowing skills. If you want to be in the best shape of your life and have fun doing it, sign-up for one of our Masters Programs for beginners that run 3 to 4 times a year.
