Lake Fran Bike Trail, an off-road bicycle and walking path, connects
Poppy Park and Lake Fran to the Dr. J. R. Smith Neighborhood Center. It
is part of a system of trails, bicycle lanes and residential street
signed bicycle routes which connect 20 schools, housing projects and
parks. Approximately two miles long, the path provides a place for
people to walk, run, and ride their bikes or roller blade removed from
the danger and noise of vehicular traffic. Amenities along the way, such
as benches, drinking fountains, shade trees and pavilions make it even
more comfortable and enjoyable. There are ample opportunities to observe
various forms of wildlife around the shores of Lake Fran. Trail users
may see a variety of birds, including a pair of American Bald Eagles
that have a nest nearby.
