Celebrate National Public Lands Day at Bill
Frederick Park at Turkey Lake
|
WHAT: |
On Saturday,
September 25, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the
City of Orlando will host its first annual
National Public Lands Day at Bill Frederick Park
at Turkey Lake. Over 170,000 participants
nationwide will visit their favorite public
parks, beaches, wildlife preserves, or forests
to learn and enjoy more about these treasured
places. They’ll be taking part in National
Public Lands Day, the largest, single-day
volunteer event for public lands in our country.
Hundreds of volunteers are already signed up to
make this Orlando event possible. Volunteers
will be educating, clean up walking trails, and
making Bill Frederick Park a better place.
Visitors are invited to enjoy special activities
and demonstrations including fishing, butterfly
art projects, hiking, bird watching, disc golf
clinics, boating, camping, and more. At 11:00
a.m., special guest speaker and presentation by
Doug Hannon, “The Bass Professor,” the world’s
leading authority on bass fishing.
This
year marks the 17th annual National Public Lands
Day, an event that brings together thousands of
volunteers from coast to coast to improve and
restore the lands and facilities that Americans
use for recreation, education, and just plain
enjoyment. Last year over 150,000 Americans
participated at sites in all 50 states.
