The varieties of Juniper that fall into the group
Juniperus horizontalis grow low to the ground. Their
needle-like leaves extend horizontal from the center. This
group of junipers vary in height from 2 feet to 8 feet.

In the middle ages people thought juniper smoke gave protection
against contagious diseases, such as the plague and leprosy.
More recently, the American Indians believed that a tea of juniper
twigs cured stomach aches and colds. Modern use of juniper
is as an ornamental plant and using the berries to flavor gin.
