The Southern Magnolia always attracts attention and the
flower's perfume is legendary. Because of it's size, this
tree is best when planted in large yards.
This tree was named for Pierre Magnol who lived from
1638 to 1715. He was the director of the Botanic Garden in
Montpellier, France and mentor to Carolus Linnaeus. (Linnaeus
developed the system we use to name plants, animals and minerals.)
