THE PARRAMORE HERITAGE COMMUNITY CELEBRATES THE GRAND OPENING OF THEIR COMMUNITY GARDEN

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 2, 2009; 4:00 – 4:30pm) –Mayor Buddy Dyer, Commissioner Daisy W. Lynum and Chief Val Demings will participate in the grand opening of the Parramore Community Garden at 654 West Robinson Street. This community garden will beautify the neighborhood, bring neighbors closer together and reduce neighborhood crime by providing a safe, recreational green space in this unused area of the community. Additionally, this project will support Mayor Dyers Green Up Orlando Initiative. The celebration will include information for crime prevention and neighborhood safety, nutrition education, and green gardening.

This community-oriented event, sponsored by the Orlando Police Department’s Neighborhood Watch Unit and City of Orlando - Neighborhood & Community Affairs office, brings neighbors together to help combat high rates of obesity and diabetes, establish inter-generational relationships, increase safety, create a police-community partnership and to improve the quality of life for Parramore residents.

Anyone who is interested in participating in this Community Garden should call the Orlando Police Departments Neighborhood Watch Unit at 407-246-2369. If you would like to start your own community garden please call the office of Neighborhood & Community Affairs at 407-246-3245.
