Phase I Map Total Project Map Typical Cross Sections Project Overview Aug. 2007 Presentation Project Description The Pres. Barack Obama Parkway (formerly Pine Hills Road/Mission Road) project begins at the intersection of Mission Road with Conroy Road and ends 500 feet north of the proposed intersection of Pine Hills Road with Old Winter Garden Road, an approximate distance of 3 miles. The corridor is being named Pres. Barack Obama Parkway because it will ensure that there will not be future confusion when the corridor intersects Mission Road near Old Winter Garden Road. The roadway is being designed and built in segments as funding is available. The roadway will serve as an alternate north/south route to Kirkman Road, John Young Parkway, and Interstate 4. When the entire segment of Pine Hills Road / Mission Road is completed, it will be an arterial from US 441 in the Apopka Area to Conroy Road in the Millenia Area. The roadway design is context sensitive, taking into account the multiple land uses along the corridor including Single Family Residential, Multi-Family Residential, Parks, Industrial and a minor amount of retail/commercial. The design of the corridor also provides special consideration to bicyclists by providing a parallel, multi-use path in order to link the Shingle Creek Trail with the Pine Hills Trail and ultimately the West Orange Trail. Project Update The Preliminary Engineering Study has been completed along with 30% Plans for the entire corridor. Follow-Up meetings with all adjacent neighborhoods to discuss buffering and landscaping issues were completed in March and April of 2008. All Permits have been received. Phase I of the Project is advertised with a bid opening scheduled for March 24, 2010. The Construction of Phase I is anticipated to be a 18 month to 2 year project and should commence during the Summer of 2010. The construction budget for Phase I is $ 8.6 million dollars. Additional community meetings are being scheduled for the Spring of 2010. For more information, please use the 24 hr. Hotline (407)-468-1839
