Office
of Purchasing Receives
National
Institute of Governmental Purchasing
"Outstanding Agency Accreditation
Achievement Award"
The Office of
Purchasing was the first local government
procurement
entity to receive the National Institute of
Governmental Purchasing
(NIGP) "Outstanding Agency Accreditation
Achievement Award." The
City of Orlando is very pleased to announce
that the Office of Purchasing has renewed its
certification and again earned this honor for
2003!
This award
formally recognizes excellence in public
procurement by establishing a body of
standards that should be in place for a solid
purchasing operation. The Office of
Purchasing met stringent NIGP
requirements in eight mandatory
categories: a well-defined mission
statement, an organization plan insuring
the strategic plan is continually reviewed,
annual plans of the office include
measurable objectives, planning/scheduling,
methods of source selection, sole
source/limited competitions,
standards/specifications,
personnel/professional development. The
City also met requirements in four optional
categories
of property management, audit/evaluation,
cooperative purchasing/ automated purchasing
system and electronic commerce.
While the NIGP
membership represents 2,100 governmental
agencies throughout the United States and
Canada, only 58 governments have attained this
distinction.
The Office of
Purchasing continues to lead a very elite
group of purchasing organizations that
represent the highest sustained standards of
quality and efficiency in
government!
