What is the economic impact of the All-Star Game in the City of Orlando?

The activities surrounding the NBA All Star week will have significant impact on the local economy. Past host cities have generated and estimated $80-$100 million. In Orlando, we expect similar numbers with more than 20,000 hotel nights booked and in addition to the NBA All Star events, there are more than 200 ancillary events planned throughout Orange County.

Did the City extend alcoholic beverage sales?

Yes, on January 9, 2012, the Orlando City Council approved the one-hour extension of alcoholic beverage sales from 2 a.m. to 3 a.m. during the 2012 NBA All-Star Game Weekend. Orlando City Code allows Council to extend alcohol sales by one hour for special events or occasions.

What is NBA Cares?

The NBA Cares All-Star Community Caravan will run from Thursday, February 23, through Sunday, February 26, and will feature the entire NBA family, including current and former player, executives, partners, and volunteers, joining together to offer hands-on community service in Central Florida.

NBA Cares is the league’s global community outreach initiative that addresses important social issues such as education, youth and family development, and health and wellness. The NBA and its teams support a range of programs, partners and initiatives that strive to positively impact children and families worldwide.

As part of the league’s mission to demonstrate leadership in social responsibility, NBA Cares reaches communities through philanthropy, hands-on service and legacy projects. Since October 2005 when NBA Cares was launched, the league and teams have raised more than $175 million for charity, provided more than 1.8 million hours of hands-on service and built more than 675 places where kids and families can live, learn or play in communities around the world.
