The City of Orlando & AmeriCorps
Through strategic partnerships, the City of Orlando strives to provide all its residents access to the best educational opportunities, further strengthening the high quality of life of the diverse and vibrant residents of Orlando. One such partnership, with the Corporation for National and Community Service / AmeriCorps, offers much needed support to the youth of the City.
This new partnership was made possible thanks to the efforts of Volunteer Florida who helped secure the City’s Operation AmeriCorps grant. Volunteer Florida is the Governor’s lead agency for volunteerism and national service in Florida. The agency grants funds to educational foundations, nonprofits, and faith-based organizations to administer AmeriCorps and National Service Programs. Volunteer Florida leads Florida’s national days of service, including September 11 and Martin Luther King, Jr., Day. During disasters, Volunteer Florida is the lead agency for volunteers and donations. For more information, click here.
AmeriCorps engages more than 75,000 men and women in intensive service each year at more than 15,000 locations. Members help communities tackle pressing problems while mobilizing millions of volunteers for the organizations they serve. Members gain valuable professional, educational and life benefits, and the experience has a lasting impact on the members and the communities they serve.
AmeriCorps consists of three main programs: AmeriCorps State and National, AmeriCorps VISTA and AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps).
