The Orlando City Artworks
Committee would like to welcome you to the 5th Annual
Artworks Exhibit and Competition for City employees and
their families. This exhibit is the largest to date, with
over 250 pieces of art submitted by 164 individual artists
and seven teams. Beautifully displayed in the City of
Orlando’s Terrace Gallery, the 2008 exhibit is remarkable in
both the breadth of creative expression and the range of art
media. At every corner of the Gallery there is something new
to discover and enjoy. Many first time artists took the
plunge by participating in our annual employee art workshop
and have successfully produced award-caliber creations. Even
if you are not exhibiting this year, we hope that this
display will inspire your future involvement in the City
Artworks program. As in
years past, this exhibit and competition would not have been
possible without the support of the National Arts Program
Foundation and our City M.E.R.I.T.S. program. Through their
as-sistance, City Artworks artists of all ages and abilities
have an opportunity to receive cash prizes, ribbons of
recognition and art class scholarships. It is important to
note that a number of these artists have gone on to showcase
their talent online through the National Arts Program’s
interactive gallery at www.ntlartsprog.org.
The 2008 City Artworks Committee
would also like to thank Mayor Buddy Dyer for his
enthusiastic and long-standing support of Artworks. In
addition, we would like to recognize our 2008 Master of
Ceremonies, Officer Jim Young, from the Orlando Police
Department who graciously agreed to emcee our awards event.
Finally, a heartfelt thanks to the many participants,
volunteers and sponsors who, through their generosity and
love of art, have made this exhibit a much anticipated
event. |
