The natural beauty of Florida is everywhere; all you have to do to experience it is to stray from the beaten path. Each photograph from this collection of images was photographed on public land. Some locations are a short hike, some require a kayak or small boat, and others may require wading through a swamp.
One secret to capturing depth in these images is soft light and deep shadows. Most of this collection was photographed just after sunrise, or in the long shadows of late afternoon. My favorite place to be is hip-deep in a Florida swamp at dawn with camera and tripod.
Things come alive when a landscape of darkness is transformed by slow, subtle illumination; it’s as if God has a dimmer switch and gradually turns on the light.
