The City of Orlando is sharing the below lane closure information on behalf of the Florida Department of Transportation. We are committed to working with our state and regional partners to ensure that proper transportation options are available during the length of the I-4 Ultimate Improvement Project and that information on closures, detours and other information is shared in a timely manner.

Road Closure Update
The following lane closures on Hughey Avenue are necessary to accommodate construction work on the wall of Interstate 4 and include:
- Starting at 10 p.m. on Thursday, August 17, and remaining in place until late-September, the FDOT will close two lanes on Hughey Avenue between Church Street and South Street.
- Additionally, a full closure of Hughey Avenue between Church Street and South Street is expected to occur following the initial double lane closure in late-September and remain in place for up to 18 months.
Recommend Alternative Routes & Transportation
In an effort to alleviate potential traffic congestion during the double lane closure and in anticipation of the future full closure, the City recommends utilizing alternate routes to avoid the area if possible.
Coming from the East on I-4:
Exit at Colonial Drive (84), take a left onto Colonial Drive, then a right onto Orange Avenue taking you southbound into Downtown.
Coming from the North on Hughey Avenue:
Washington Street is recommended as an alternate route for southbound access around Downtown. Two alternate routes using Washington Street are as follows –
- Turn left onto Washington Street, then right onto Orange Avenue to access Orange Avenue southbound into Downtown.
- Turn right onto Washington Street, then left onto Division Avenue, then left onto South Street to access Orange Avenue or continue south on Division toward Gore Street.
Alternative Modes of Transportation:
During construction, the City encourages the use of alternative modes of transportation to head into and get around Downtown, including SunRail, car share, Juice Bike Share, LYNX, LYMMO, carpooling and adjusting schedules when possible to avoid traffic delays.
