CityofOrlando.net – This Thursday, April 17, Orlando’s hometown hockey team, the Solar Bears, will begin ECHL Kelly Cup Playoff action against the Cincinnati Cyclones at the Amway Center.
In support of the Solar Bears before their first quarterfinal game, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer has officially proclaimed Thursday as “Solar Bears Purple Day” in the City of Orlando. Mayor Dyer is encouraging all Central Florida residents to wear purple on Thursday to show their spirit for the Solar Bears.
Also, on Thursday evening, the Lake Eola Fountain, the Amway Center Spire and the Tower of Light at City Hall will light up purple to support the team.
PROCLAMATION – CITY OF ORLANDO
WHEREAS, the Orlando Solar Bears are Orlando’s hometown ECHL team; and
WHEREAS, the Solar Bears are a proud affiliate of the NHL’s Minnesota Wild and Toronto Maple Leafs and the AHL’s Iowa Wild and Toronto Marlies; and
WHEREAS, the organization plays its home games in Downtown Orlando at the Amway Center; and
WHEREAS, the team posted a strong 2013-14 regular season, finishing fourth in the Eastern Conference with a 43-24-2-3 record for 91 points; and
WHEREAS, the Solar Bears will face the Cincinnati Cyclones in the Eastern Conference Kelly Cup quarterfinals; and
WHEREAS, the City of Orlando supports the Solar Bears during their playoff run and encourages all citizens of Orlando to demonstrate their support of the Orlando Solar Bears by wearing purple on Thursday, April 17;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BUDDY DYER, Mayor of the City of Orlando, hereby do proclaim Thursday, April 17, 2014 as
“Solar Bears Purple Day”
in the City of Orlando.
