ORLANDO (CityofOrlando.net) – Leading media members through a hard-hat tour, Mayor Buddy Dyer showed the updated amenities added to the Orlando Citrus Bowl on August 27.
Mayer Dyer showcased the newly poured 20,000 square-foot north plaza deck, which has monumental 63-step staircases on both sides along Church Street. The deck will be a place for fans to meet others and also enjoy the view of the action on the field. Facing the back of the deck is a scenic view of Lake Lorna Doone.
“I think it’s the place where people are going to sit before and after the game, watch the crowds come in, watch the crowd leave. It’s going to be a tremendous experience,” Mayor Dyer said.
Takesha Graham, one of the workers who helped complete the new plaza, was also in attendance. She is one of many who have received work through the City’s BLUEPRINT employment office. Through the BLUEPRINT initiative, 165 individuals have been hired to work on the Citrus Bowl reconstruction project.
The Citrus Bowl reconstruction will be completed prior to its first event, the Florida Blue Florida Classic featuring the Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M football teams, on November 22. Mayor Dyer assures fans that the stadium will be “game ready.”
