ORLANDO (CityofOrlando.net) – Before they head to Chicago for a competition, teens from the Dueling Dragons Boat Team received a visit from Mayor Buddy Dyer on Wednesday, July 23. Mayor Dyer spoke to the children before their practice and then headed out onto Lake Fairview to watch the team participate in some races.
The Dueling Dragons Boat Team partners youngsters from the Parramore Kidz Zone, the City’s Families, Parks and Recreation program and Operation Positive Direction with officers from the Orlando Police Department. Formed four years ago, the team includes children ages 12-18.
The program teaches youth the importance of determination, discipline and teamwork and also promotes positive relationships with the police officers.
The team will be competing in the Walgreens Chicago International Dragon Boat Festival presented by PepsiCo, which features teams from across North America, on Saturday, July 26.
