Last spring, in an effort to raise awareness about safety and to decrease the number of car and home burglaries, the Orlando Police Department launched Operation Lock It Up. As part of this initiative, police officers went through neighborhoods to check if any vehicles or homes were left unlocked.
Pamphlets were then distributed with tips on the best ways to keep homes and cars safe and secure. In 2014, the 64 hours spent canvassing neighborhoods found that 494 vehicles and 86 homes were left unlocked.
