ORLANDO (CityofOrlando.net) – Orlando has again been named a Playful City USA community. The KaBOOM! Playful City USA program, sponsored by the Humana Foundation, honors cities and towns across America that are taking bold steps to ensure that all children, especially the 16 million American kids living in poverty, have easy access to balanced and active play in their communities.
Fifty-two playgrounds are located at City parks and recreation centers.
The recognition was the seventh in a row for Orlando, which is tied for the most in Florida. Orlando was one of 212 communities across the country that was recognized by KaBOOM!
Orlando was honored for promoting a balance of all types of play as part of its “Vision for Play” initiative, which guides actions and investments over the next 20 years to provide a healthy urban play environment that promotes all types of play for all kids, which is critical to cognitive, creative, social, emotional and physical development.
