ORLANDO (CityofOrlando.net) – The popular Historic Preservation Board Calendar has been produced by the City since 1991 to showcase some of Orlando’s most treasured historic resources. The City of Orlando Historic Preservation Board is currently seeking photographs for the 2015 calendar, which will feature Orlando’s historic local landmarks, landmark signs and national register properties.
Professional or amateur photographers may submit black and white pictures that capture the individuality, history and aesthetic of Orlando’s historic sites. Selected photographs will be included in the 2015 calendar.
Orlando’s Local Landmarks
Orlando has 45 historic local landmarks, landmark signs and national register properties to choose as a subject. The various sites include churches, gardens, historic signs, commercial buildings and homes, schools and theaters. Each site represents a part of Orlando’s history, from the homes of historical figures like Jack Kerouac, Judge Cheney, Dr. Phillips and Dr. W. Wells to local schools such as Grand Avenue Elementary and Orlando High School. Other interesting landmarks include the Dickson Azalea Park and Washington Street Bridge, the Harry P. Leu House and Mizell Cemetery at Leu Gardens and the Orwin Manor Gates.
Up to three photographs, labeled on the back with name, email address, daytime telephone number and the address or site name of the subject must be submitted or postmarked by July 11, 2014 at 5 p.m.
Photographs must be black and white and printed on 8” x 10” or 8 ½” X 11” paper with a white border. Vertical or horizontal photographs are acceptable. The Board encourages photographs that capture the unique architectural characteristics of historic structures in the district. Please remember to be respectful of people and their property.
