NFL Pro Bowl
Last August we welcomed the NFL back to Orlando after a 19-year absence to host the Miami Dolphins vs. Atlanta Falcons preseason game at Camping World Stadium. Our relationship with the NFL continues to grow because this Sunday, January 29, we will host the 2017 NFL Pro Bowl for the first of hopefully many years to come.
This all-star game features the best players in the NFL as determined by a consensus vote among fans, coaches and players. It’s also a huge coup for our city because in the last 35 years, it’s been hosted at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu for all but two years.
The Pro Bowl will allow us to showcase our thriving city to visitors attending the game as well as provide exposure to millions of football fans watching the broadcast around the globe. The estimated $30-$40 million economic impact is another tremendous upside.
High-profile events like this continue to bolster Orlando’s reputation as one of the country’s premier sports destinations.
Item of Note:
H – Police #2 – JAG Grant – First Aid for 1st Responders
Council heard an item that will further our public safety efforts.
To further protect our officers and assist them in doing their job, apprehending criminals and safeguard our citizens, we have been awarded a $60,000 Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) to purchase Active Shooter Response Kits for our patrol officers to wear during events like active shooter incidents.
This adds an extra level of protection for our officers when responding to these situations, especially when the gunman might have a high-power rifle, like the one utilized by the shooter in the Pulse attack.
