Monday, October 9, 2017, Workshop heard updates from three of the City’s economic development organizations, including –
- The National Entrepreneur Center
- The Black Business Investment Fund
- Prospera Florida
These organizations are key to helping the City promote economic growth by leveraging their unique expertise.
Through these funding agreements, our partner agencies are able to provide technical assistance and educational programming to local entrepreneurs, creating jobs for our residents and opportunities for small, local businesses to succeed.

Vegas Shooting
Sadly, here in Orlando we know the incredibly long and difficult path that lies ahead for Las Vegas and everyone impacted by what happened there following the tragic shooting last Monday.
In the aftermath of Pulse, communities across the world shared their love and strength with us.
Mayor Buddy Dyer asked that council chambers pause for a moment of silence to send thoughts and prayers to Las Vegas and all of those who are hurting right now.
In addition to sending our prayers, last week we had the opportunity to actively send love and support to Vegas by sending two of our City employees, Kathy DeVault and Craig Borkon, to Vegas to help them establish an assistance center.
Kathy and Craig were vital in the establishment and operation of the assistance center here in Orlando after Pulse. They arrived last Tuesday morning in Vegas and were there all last week working with the City of Vegas, Clark County and various federal, state and community service providers to help assist the victims and families of the Vegas shooting.
Thank you Kathy and Craig for your dedication and hard work.

Pulse Memorial
The OnePulse Foundation is working on a temporary memorial at the Pulse site while the foundation undertakes a community process to develop a permanent memorial.
Mayor Dyer recognized Barbara Poma, Pulse Nightclub Owner, and members of the OnePulse Foundation who were in council Monday.
We appreciate Barbara Poma’s love and dedication she has put into developing a temporary memorial at Pulse that ensures it continues to be a place where friends and families can come remember their loved ones.
Barbara gave a brief overview of the project.

City’s Relief Efforts to help Puerto Rico
Many people are still dealing with devastating effects from Hurricane Harvey, Irma and Maria.
Following the devastation in Puerto Rico, many families are relocating here to Orlando. As a City we are collaborating with our federal, state and local government partners and our local community organizations to provide aid and assistance to those affected.
The City has opened a satellite HOLA office at the Disaster Relief Center in the Orlando International Airport, which provides an onsite resource with bilingual services evacuees arriving here in Orlando.

Hurricane Irma Debris Collection
As our community continues to recover from Hurricane Irma, here is a quick up on debris pick up.
City crews and contractors continue to work 12 hour shifts 7 days a week on picking up debris. We have made significant progress but still have a long way to go.
You can check the status of debris removal in your area by visiting cityoforlando.net/debris where you will find a map that is updated weekly to show areas that are complete, where crews are currently working and where they are headed next.
Mayor Dyer thanked our residents for their support and patience as city staff and contractors work tirelessly to restore the City Beautiful.

Community Service and Arts & Cultural organization Funding
City Council voted to approve a funding agreement that will allow the City to provide funding for many of its community service organizations, arts and cultural organizations.
These individuals, and the organizations that they represent, are working in partnership with the city to improve our quality of life throughout the year.
These organizations include the Homeless Services Network, the Regional Commission on Homelessness, United Arts of Central Florida, the Orlando Science Center and the Pet Alliance.
