On June 12, 2016, the world witnessed another tragic act of malicious evil as the lives of 49 innocent people were violently taken from us right here in Orlando.

Heartbroken, devastated and deeply saddened by this horrific event has led my staff and I to pray incessantly for the victims, survivors and their families and the LGBTQ community.

The innocent people who lost their lives were our sons, our daughters, our co-workers and our friends. They were our family.

On behalf of all of the residents of District 6 and the city of Orlando, I encourage everyone to join me in praying without ceasing for the healing of the people who remain in the hospital, their families, our country, and the Orlando community.

I am so proud of Chief John Mina and the heroic work of the first responders, the Orlando Police Officers, Orlando Fire Fighters, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and Rural Metro. I am grateful for the amazing outpouring of love and support that we have received from other law enforcement agencies and from many people and organizations throughout the world.

This day will be a day that we will always remember.  But it will never overshadow the lines of people wrapped around corners waiting to donate blood. It will never erase the hugs, the words of sympathy and the love and strength of the Orlando community.

Keep praying. Keep loving. Keep standing Orlando Strong.
