United States Postal Regulatory
Commission Proposes Closure of
District 4's Colonialtown Post Office ![]() On July 30, 2009, the United States Postal Regulatory Commission released its list of Post Offices and Stations proposed for closure across the country. Included on page 9 of this list, was the Colonialtown Station located at N Mills Avenue and E Concord Street. In response to the possibility of losing a neighborhood landmark and community partner, Commissioner Sheehan drafted a letter to the USPRC members and the United States Postmaster General and CEO. In addition to Postal Service officials, Commissioner Sheehan copied her letter to United States Senator Bill Nelson, U.S. Congressman Alan Grayson and the neighborhood leaders in the surrounding neighborhoods who value having our "local" post office. As of December 2009, the Colonialtown Post Office has been removed from the list of proposed closures! This was great news to the City, the neighborhood, the employees there and ALL the patrons who enjoy the convenience of our community post office! |
