Green Works LIFESustainability Efforts in your Community
Sustainability is about more than just conserving energy or water or reducing your carbon footprint. Sustainability is about communities that truly sustain and support the people who live in them. Find out how you can get involved in your community – through volunteering, supporting local business, buying locally grown food, meeting your neighbors, and more!
Green-Up Orlando encourages
citizens, groups and organizations to plant trees and shrubs, beautify
their neighborhoods, raise public awareness and pride in Orlando, and
promote the benefits of volunteer efforts in partnership with the City.
Keep Orlando Beautiful (KOB) As a local affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, our Mission is to empower individuals to take greater responsibility for enhancing their community environment through litter prevention, waste reduction/recycling, and beautification. Keep Orlando Beautiful hosts regular neighborhood and lake cleanup events for which volunteers are always needed.
We all have to eat. Choosing to food that
was grown or produced locally is a great way to reduce your carbon
footprint. Other ways to “green” your food choices is to buy organic or
hydroponic produce, plant a home garden, join a food co-op, support
local restaurants, and buy in bulk to reduce packaging.
UF IFAS Extension – UF’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) has an extension office in Orange County, offering classes and workshops on all kinds of sustainability and food related topics!
