MAYOR DYER KICKS-OFF ARTS BUSINESS INSTITUTE IN ORLANDO

WHAT: Artists from across the Southeast will converge on the City of Orlando to take part in a three-day business workshop produced by the Arts Business Institute (ABI). Entitled Industry Fundamentals: Arts Business Courses, the workshop will be held from September 7-9, 2007, at the CityArts Factory in downtown Orlando.

Sponsored by the City of Orlando, the Downtown Arts District and the CityArts Factory, Industry Fundamentals is designed to provide artists with the information needed to manage and grow profitable arts businesses. The workshop features educational business seminars, individual mentoring sessions and opportunities to network with other artists and ABI faculty members.

“A recent study by the organization Americans for the Arts revealed that the Central Florida arts community helps to support nearly 3,500 local jobs and we want to give those artists the tools to run a successful business making art,” said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer.

“Art schools and programs frequently focus on teaching students how to make great works of art. ABI complements that education by teaching artists how to manage the business side of their careers,” says executive director Meghan Bunnell.

Artists interested in attending can register online as well as find a schedule, full seminar descriptions and information about travel and lodging at www.ArtsBusinessInstitute.org. The cost of attending the seminar is $178.50, and scholarships are available for Orlando residents.
