Mayor Dyer and City of Orlando Fire Department Honor Victims of September 11

WHAT: On September 11, the Orlando Fire Department will be hosting a guest book signing in honor of the victims of the September 11, 2001 attack. Firefighters, law enforcement officers, civilians, and military officers from the Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marines will “post” with the guest books, representing the designated victims of the tragedy. The goal is to obtain 2,996 signatures in each guest book – one for each victim listed from 9/11.

WHEN: September 11, 2007
7 a.m. – 7 p.m.

12 – 1 p.m. – Mayor Dyer will attend the performance of the Parris Island Marine Band. The 50 members of the Band will be performing a tribute in front of Firehouse 1.

7:30 p.m. -- The Orlando Fire Department will hold a candlelight service honoring the FDNY Firefighters who gave the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11. The Orlando Fire Department Honor Guard and Orlando Firefighters Pipes and Drums Corps will participate in what has become an annual tribute to the brave men who perished on that tragic day. The lighting of 343 candles (one for each firefighter lost on September 11, 2001) and the strains of Amazing Grace by a lone bagpiper will highlight this poignant event.
