City To Open Second “Green” Fire Station
On Tuesday, October
23rd, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and Fire Chief Jim Reynolds will
officially open Orlando’s newest fire station – Station 17 –
located in the heart of the Millenia neighborhoods.
Station 17 is one of only two “green” fire stations in the state
of Florida.
The City opened the first “green” fire station in the state in
September. The new facilities are the only fire stations in
Florida to have applied for LEED certification, the national
standard for green buildings. The City of Orlando will open a
third “green” fire station later this fall.
Mayor Dyer will also sign the “U.S. Conference of Mayors Climate
Protection Agreement” at the event. By signing the pledge, Mayor
Dyer will join more than 500 Mayors across the country who have
pledged to act locally to reduce global warming.
The commitment to green building and the signing ceremony are
part of “Green Works Orlando,” the City’s environmental action
agenda. “Green Works Orlando” is a comprehensive plan to protect
our natural resources, encourage environmentally friendly
lifestyles and businesses practices and engage everyone who
lives, works and visits our Central Florida home in the effort
to “go green.”
