City of Orlando Fire Department Arson Dog Undergoes Recertification Training
Live Demonstrations Today

WHAT: In 2000, the City of Orlando Fire Department’s Bomb and Arson Unit received a new tool in the fight against Arson--Max, a black lab accelerant detection K-9. Since Lieutenant Dave Haley was partnered with Max, she has worked over 250 cases and has a 95% accuracy rate. In addition, Max is capable of discerning 40-60 different types of accelerants.

Today, Max along with 25 arson dog teams from 14 states and the District of Columbia will go through a recertification process. These highly trained canines and handlers will perform live demonstrations to detect accelerants like gasoline, kerosene, and lighter fluid at a simulated fire scene. The press is invited to attend the training which will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007.

WHEN: October 24, 2007
10:30 a.m.

WHERE: The Groves Apartments at 2338 South Conway Rd. in Orlando.
