Mayor Dyer Plants the Seeds of the Future
Mayor Dyer Works-Along as part of “Green Works Orlando”

WHAT: Today Mayor Dyer will “work-along” with students from Nap Ford Community School and Leu Gardens staff to plant a community garden. As part of “Green Works Orlando,” Mayor Dyer is implementing a community garden. Community gardens are an important tool in engaging children and adults in beautifying the neighborhood, while educating the community on the importance of locally-grown plants and vegetables.

Under the “Green Works Orlando” banner, the City has established five “pillars” that will serve as the operational foundation of the plan: energy efficiencies and green buildings; transportation; sustainable infrastructure and conservation; green spaces; and advocacy and education.

The 19’ x 16’ community garden will consist of organically grown tomatoes, cauliflower, collards, cabbage, broccoli, mustard, turnips, flowers and herbs.

History of Work-Alongs

As part of Mayor Dyer’s commitment to providing citizens with the high quality service they have come to expect, he participates in monthly work-alongs with various City staff. Mayor Dyer has worked with Code Enforcement Officers, went door-to-door with Orlando Police Officers delivering valuable City information to residents in the Parramore Heritage Neighborhood, assisted City staff with aquatic weed spraying in the Clear Lake aquatic community, and worked in the customer service and development review areas of Permitting Services.
