Mayor Buddy Dyer Leads Patriotic Parade With Active Duty Military

WHAT: Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and his Veterans Advisory Council will pay tribute to the courageous men and women who serve our country by hosting the 8th Annual Orlando Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, November 10, 2007, at 10 a.m. in Downtown Orlando.

Mayor Dyer will lead the parade along with active duty and reserve military units. It is essential that we support our troops at home and abroad. These units will consist of soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines and reservists as well as large military vehicles used overseas. “It is important that our community honors the dedication and commitment of the men and women who bravely serve our country. I am proud of the work my Veterans Advisory Council, does in planning tribute and educational activities to remember this important day,” said Mayor Dyer.

The Grand Marshal will be Rear Admiral LeRoy Collins, Jr. Executive Director of the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs. He will be followed by more than 100 entries consisting of floats, marching bands, ROTC units, honor guards and representatives from Central Florida’s Veterans organizations.

The parade route begins at Robinson Street and Orange Avenue, travels south on Orange Avenue, then east on Central Boulevard, north on Rosalind Avenue and ends at Livingtston Street. More than 5,000 spectators are expected to line the parade route showing support for active duty, reserve military and veterans for their contributions and service to the nation.
