Orlando Police Department and Mayor Dyer Announce New Operation
Operation Delta Puts 200 Plus in Handcuffs

Orlando, FL – October 30, 2007 -- Last week, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and Police Chief Michael McCoy announced the arrests of more than 200 individuals as a result of Operation Delta. On October 1, the Orlando Police Department launched Operation Delta, an initiative aimed at attacking street level drug operations, reducing the associated violent crimes and increasing the quality of life for all residence in the Parramore neighborhood.

“Our aim was immediate and aggressive action, combine aggressive policing with 24-hour police presence as a way to knock out the criminal element… and keep it out for good,” Mayor Buddy Dyer said during the press conference. “Above all, we wanted to do something that would give the good people in this neighborhood a stronger sense of safety.”

Operation Delta is a multi-phased operation targeting street-level drug operations in the Parramore neighborhood. During the operation, OPD, in conjunction with MBI, Code Enforcement and Animal Services, conducted intelligence gathering and target identification; undercover drug buys; roundups of street drug dealers and enforcement maintenance.

Operation Delta is one initiative under a wide-ranging strategy to fight crime in Orlando. Over the past year, Mayor Dyer has committed additional resources to combat the rise in crime including the multi-year, $100 million Public Safety Initiative which puts additional police officers patrolling our streets, establishing the Safe Orlando Task Force to develop short and long-term recommendations, OPD's deployment of TAC units and the launch of the Illegal Gun Bounty program.
