Workshops Seek Public Input to Guide
the Orlando “Main Street” Program
| WHAT: |
During this year's
State of Downtown address, Mayor Buddy Dyer announced Orlando
was accepted as the only urban citywide Main Street Program in
the Southeast. This program gives neighborhoods a competitive
advantage in attracting and retaining residents and vibrant
businesses and offers business revitalization support to local
commercial districts.
The underlying premise of the Main Street approach is to
encourage economic development within the context of
neighborhood preservation. The activities of the Orlando Main
Street Program, therefore, must be directed by a local
organization made up of stakeholders whose primary goal is the
long-term revitalization of the commercial district.
The City is offering seven workshops to explain how residents
and business owners can take part in the Main Street program.
