City of Orlando Ready for Tropical Storm Fay
Update #2

The City of Orlando is preparing for Tropical Storm Fay. Mayor Buddy Dyer wants residents to do the same.

The City continues to monitor Tropical Storm Fay. Accordingly, all residents are encouraged to begin preparing for the storm by making sure they have enough supplies in their disaster kits to last for at least three days and mapping out an emergency plan with their family members.

Residents should also note the following information:

TUESDAY: The City of Orlando Emergency Information Line, 407-246-4268, will be open from 9:00a.m. until the duration of the storm. The hot line is staffed with personnel available to answer non-emergency calls for assistance or to provide information regarding Tropical Storm Fay.

TUESDAY: The City will suspend residential garbage, recycling and yard waste pick-up. Residents should NOT place any new debris curbside for pick-up. The City suggests placing debris in either a garage or carport.

TUESDAY: City residents may pick up sandbags from 8:00am to 11:00am at the City’s Streets Facility (1010 Woods Avenue). Sandbags are only available to Orlando residents and citizens must bring an ID to obtain the sandbags. The limit is ten (10) bags per vehicle.

TUESDAY: The City's parking garage on Central Blvd. will be open and free for any one who wants to park their car for the duration of the storm.

WEDNESDAY: The City will suspend yard waste pick-up.

Additional information will be relayed through the City's web site and through print and electronic media as soon as it becomes available.

For more information about hurricane preparedness, residents can visit the City's web page at:

Residents may also tune into the City’s emergency radio station, 1650 AM, for information on the storm. This new service provides information both before and after a storm, and is especially designed for residents who lose power during a storm.

MEDIA NOTE: There will not be another update until tomorrow morning.

For planning purposes, once the Orlando Operations Center has been activated, the media contact phone number for the Orlando Operation Center is 407-658-3960.

Please note the OOC has not yet been activated.
