Since the City of Orlando adopted a
civil enforcement process for red light signal violations, no
points will be assessed against the vehicle owner. A civil fine
in the amount of $125.00 will be assessed for the first two
violations and a civil fine in the amount of $250.00 will be
assessed for the third and any subsequent violation by the owner
in any three year period.
Red light violations are among the
most common causes of motor vehicle collisions and tend to be
the most deadly. In Florida, red light running accounts for at
least 100 fatalities and more than 6,300 injuries every year. In
2007, there were more than 525 red light running crashes in the
City of Orlando. Red light camera use has proven to be an
effective means of reducing the number of red light running
crashes at intersections within Florida and the United States,
ultimately saving lives. The program is less expensive than
having police officers conduct red light running detail and
allows officers to focus on other public safety issues instead. |
