Mayor
Buddy Dyer Provides Well Needed Distraction for Kids at Florida Hospital
For Children
|
WHAT:
|
Mayor Buddy Dyer will be re-connecting with his inner
child as he works with kids in the Florida Hospital for Children’s
pediatric unit. Mayor Dyer will assist the children in the playroom on
an arts and crafts project providing a well-needed distraction. As part
of his Strengthen Orlando plan, Mayor Dyer has transitioned his series
of work-alongs to focus primarily on community service. Through leading
by example, Mayor Dyer encourages citizens to get involved and give back
to their community.
Distractions through play are essential to the
recovery of kids in the hospital, as it gives them a few minutes of
freedom from the hospital setting and provides an important get away
from their medical condition. The time kids spend playing with
volunteers can also give parents some much-needed additional support
during the stressful time of having a child in the hospital.

VOLUNTEER
OPPORTUNITIES: |
Florida Hospital volunteers are instrumental in
delivering the ideal patient experience. From music and pet therapy to
cuddling the smallest newborn in the Intensive Care Unit, Florida
Hospital’s more than 3,000 volunteers are a vital connection to the
Central Florida community.
Florida Hospital also has a variety of other volunteer
jobs that don’t involve children. Volunteers can assist patients with
using interactive educational technology called the GetWell Network.
Energetic volunteers work in the fast-paced emergency rooms while others
serve as Patient Companions, having a comforting conversation with a
patient who needs an ear to listen…and perhaps someone to offer words of
encouragement.
