Annual College Fair for Parramore Youth

WHAT: |
Parramore Kidz Zone’s 2nd Annual College Fair will take
place on Wednesday, January 13, 2010. This college fair will
give students the opportunity to talk to the recruiters
about their schools, from what courses are offered to life
on campus. Students can learn more about the colleges they
are already familiar with and be introduced to new ones as
well.
“PKZ has traditionally focused on crime prevention and
keeping kids in school in the City’s highest poverty and
highest crime neighborhood, and we’re continuing to build on
our foundation of keeping kids engaged in education,”
Stanley Cromartie, the City’s Youth Intervention and
Prevention Coordinator and organizer of this event.
Participating colleges include Florida A&M University,
Bethune-Cookman University, Edward Waters College, Florida
Memorial College, Valencia Community College, and Columbia
College. The college recruiters will have recruitment
literature and be available to speak to those attending the
college fair.
Modeled after the Harlem Children’s Zone, Parramore Kidz
Zone employs creative outreach to engage a critical mass of
Parramore’s children and link them to positive
opportunities, including pre-kindergarten education,
parenting education, health care, mentoring, tutoring and
constructive activities when school is out.
