Mayor Dyer Encourages Residents to Recycle Unused Electronics

WHAT: Do you have an old cell phone or television sitting around at your house collecting dust? Did you know those electronics – and others – can be recycled and their parts reused? Recycling electronics like fax machines and laptops keeps lead, mercury and other toxic materials from harming people and the environment.

To help prevent electronic waste in our landfills, the City’s Keep Orlando Beautiful program is hosting a free electronic waste collection on Saturday, June 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Orlando residents can bring all their unused electronics to one location and will not even have to get out of their car while electronics are unloaded. Participating residents will also be entered into a raffle for a chance to win a new laptop.

WHEN: Saturday, June 12th, 2010
9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

WHERE: Orlando Festival Park
2911 E. Robinson Street
(near Primrose Drive and Robinson Street Intersection)

Green Works Orlando:
Mayor Dyer’s GreenWorks Orlando initiative is the City’s comprehensive plan to protect our natural resources, encourage environmentally-friendly lifestyles and business practices and engage everyone who lives, works and visits Central Florida in the effort to “go green.”

Keep Orlando Beautiful:
Part of GreenWorks Orlando, Keep Orlando Beautiful (KOB) empowers individuals to take greater responsibility for enhancing their community environment through beautification and litter prevention. KOB also offers several educational programs for local schools.
