District 2 City of Orlando Commissioner
Tony Ortiz Continues to Revitalize and Enhance the Semoran Neighborhood
Orlando, FL – June 15, 2011 – In an effort to enhance
transportation infrastructure along Semoran Boulevard, District 2 City
Commissioner Tony Ortiz and the City of Orlando recently installed a new
traffic light at the intersection of Lake Underhill Road and Yucatan
Drive. This new traffic light will enhance access to the 408 Expressway
and make entering eastbound traffic easier for residents and visitors of
the City. The light is expected to be fully operational by tomorrow,
June 16, 2011.
In conjunction with the newly installed traffic light is an additional
pedestrian sidewalk connecting Lake Underhill Road with Bamboo Drive.
Built to ADA standards, the sidewalk is wheelchair accessible for our
residents. New pedestrian countdown signals were also added in the
redevelopment of the intersection.
“I want to thank the City of Orlando, the OOCEA and Orange County for
their commitment to the revitalization of the Semoran neighborhood and
the safety of our residents and visitors who travel this corridor,” said
City Commissioner Ortiz. “This newly installed traffic light and
intersection improvements compliment the efforts already underway in the
area through the Semoran Boulevard Vision Plan and is another
contribution in our efforts to revitalize our district.”
The traffic light was made possible by a joint partnership between the
City of Orlando, the Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority (OOCEA)
and Orange County.
