Celebrate National Public Lands Day at
City of Orlando Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake
WHAT:
The City of Orlando invites Central Florida residents and visitors to
enjoy a family day of FREE fun on Saturday, September 24, 2011 from 9
a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake for the City’s
second annual National Public Lands Day. This weekend, Americans from
coast to coast will visit their favorite public parks, beaches, wildlife
preserves or forests to enjoy and learn more about these treasured
places as part of National Public Lands Day.
At the City of Orlando’s National Public Lands Day celebration, visitors
are invited to enjoy special activities and demonstrations including
fishing, nature art projects, hiking, disc golf, boating and camping.
Animal farm tours will be available featuring horses, goats and more.
There will also be giveaways including fishing rods, trees and native
plants. This year’s feature attraction is the Nature Connect Trail, a ¼
mile trail of art, music and climbing that was built by local
volunteers. A fundraiser 5K to benefit Nation Public Lands Day starts at
7:30 a.m. Visit www.raceit.com//register/?event=4759 to sign up and for
more details on the 5K.
This year marks the 18th annual National Public Lands Day, an event that
brings together thousands nationwide to improve and restore the lands
and facilities that Americans use for recreation, education and
enjoyment. Last year more than 150,000 Americans participated at sites
in all 50 states.
