City of Orlando Redistricting Advisory Board Holds Public Meeting

WHAT:
Every ten years, the City of Orlando has to redraw its commission boundaries based on the federal Census. The basic purpose of redistricting is to ensure each City Commission district has equal population distribution in an effort to assure equality in representation. To accomplish this goal, the Orlando City Council has appointed a volunteer Redistricting Advisory Board (RAB) consisting of nine citizen members.

The City of Orlando RAB will host a series of public meetings including community meetings in each City district and working board session meetings. The next public meeting is a working board session meeting and is scheduled Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Council Chambers on the 2nd floor of Orlando City Hall, 400 South Orange Avenue, in Downtown Orlando.

The committee will introduce and discuss committee-generated map proposals and take public comment, including any map proposals the public may wish to offer. All members of the public are encouraged to attend and provide input regarding proposed changes to the City of Orlando commission districts at each of the community meetings.

The board’s next meeting is as follows:

Tuesday, September 27, 2011
6:00 p.m.

Council Chambers, City Hall, 400 South Orange Avenue
(Working Board Session Meeting)
