Mayor Buddy Dyer and Police Chief Paul Rooney Recognize Block Captains at the 27th Annual Neighborhood Watch Leaders Forum

WHAT:
Mayor Buddy Dyer, Orlando City Commissioners and Orlando Police Department Chief Paul Rooney will recognize the dedicated efforts of Neighborhood Watch Block Captains at the annual Neighborhood Watch Leaders Forum.

This is the 27th year that Orlando has recognized the role citizens play in crime prevention. There are currently more than 700 Neighborhood Watch Block Captains in the City of Orlando.

WHY:
The Orlando Police Departments (OPD) Neighborhood Watch Block Captains have made considerable contributions to the City of Orlando. Their dedication has led OPD to place in the top three for the past six consecutive years in the National Night Out crime prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. In 2011, the Orlando Police Department was selected as the Category 2 1st place National Night Out area.

These efforts along with those of OPD officers and staff have led to an overall 7.6% reduction in violent crime.

WHEN:
Wednesday, February 8, 2012
11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

WHERE:
Harry P. Leu Gardens
