Orlando Mayor Dyer Announces Fire Department
Management Appointment
October 5, 2012 – ORLANDO, FL –Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer recently
announced the retirement of Fire Deputy Chief Greg Hoggatt after more
than 23 years of service at the City of Orlando. Mayor Dyer has
appointed Assistant Chief Roderick Williams, a 17-year Orlando Fire
Department (OFD) veteran to succeed Hoggatt as Deputy Chief.
“Deputy Chief Greg Hoggatt has had an outstanding history with our fire
department and has provided strong leadership for three years as Deputy
Chief,” said Mayor Dyer. “I am thankful for his dedication to delivering
a high level of service to our residents and know he will be greatly
missed by everyone who has had the pleasure of working with him.”
Newly promoted Deputy Chief Williams will now be responsible for the
Fire Support Services Bureau of OFD which includes Emergency Medical
Services (EMS), Emergency Management, Fire Safety Management, Technology
Management and 911 Communications.
During his 17-year tenure with OFD, Willams has worked in many
capacities including the Field Operations Bureau directly serving
Orlando citizens and in the Training Division with responsibilities over
recruitment, hiring and the Field Training Officer Program. Most
recently, Williams served as Assistant Chief in Administration for the
past year focused on key technology upgrades and improvements and
working with the Fire Chief’s office to achieve an ISO rating of 1 – the
top 1/10th of 1 percent of all fire departments in the nation.
“Public safety remains a top priority of my administration and I look
forward to working with Chief Williams in his new role and the fine men
and women of the Orlando Fire Department as they continue to deliver the
highest level of safety and fire protection to the citizens of Orlando,”
said Mayor Dyer.
Chief Williams joins the rank of Deputy Chief alongside Deputy Chiefs
Frank Cornier and John McCormack. The Deputy Chiefs work directly under
the leadership of OFD Chief John Miller who has overseen the day-to-day
operations of the department since February 2010.
The appointment of Deputy Chief Williams will go into effect on October
14, 2012.
