Remembers Local Veterans During the Holidays
Wreaths Across America Day to Honor Veterans at
Greenwood Cemetery and More Than 750 Participating Locations Nationwide
The City of Orlando’s Mayor’s Veterans Advisory Council invites Central
Florida residents to honor our veterans during the holiday season as
part of the annual Wreaths Across America(TM) Day on Saturday, December
15, 2012 at 12 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery.
Specially designated wreaths for the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force,
Coast Guard, Merchant Marine and POW/MIA will be placed on memorials
during a ceremony that will be coordinated simultaneously at more than
750 participating locations all across the country.
In 2012, it is projected that 150,000 volunteers will place more than
400,000 wreaths nationwide. Wreaths will be placed in all 50 states from
Maine to Alaska and Hawaii, and at 24 national cemeteries on foreign
The Wreaths Across America(TM) story began more than 20 years ago when
the Worcester Wreath Company from Harrington, Maine initiated a
tradition of donating and placing wreaths on the headstones of our
Nation’s fallen heroes at Arlington National Cemetery.
Veterans, active duty personnel and volunteers will place 600 wreaths on
the graves of our local heroes located throughout Greenwood Cemetery.
